Now a homemade wooden portable NES.

I was surfing on Engadget and came across this story and had to post it. This is just like an earlier story I did about a wooden SNES. It is great that there is still so much interest in retro gaming. You can check out the story here and a guide plus more photos here.

Retro Gaming Consoles Now Portable.

I have seen many stories about Mr. Ben Heck for a long time now but somehow forgot. This is something I have to talk about. Mr. Heck has gone above and beyond and taken consoles like the Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, and even the PSOne and built handheld portable devices that run off batteries. It is pretty incredible and he even has instructions on how to do it your self. You can find these projects and more at benheck.com.

What is Snapbomb?

Well this is unrelated to retrogaming but related to blogging in general. I recently came across a service that has had a lot of buzz surrounding it called Snapbomb. This is a blog marketing service that provides bloggers with content to blog about delivered directly from advertisers and the author is paid accordingly. There are several services around that offer blog advertising and this new start up looks very promising for individuals who are veterans and new to blogging. This service can offer bloggers the opportunity to blog full time and for some quit their day job. I personally am very excited about the opportunity's offered here and hope you fellow bloggers take the time to check it out. You can find the new service here at http://www.snapbomb.com.

Found a great review of the GP2X.

I was surfing the net and came across a great review of the GP2X not to be confused with the GP2X F200 update which has a touchscreen and d-pad. The reviewer gives a detailed rundown of all its current features which with the large community surrounding it are quickly increasing. Check out the review here.

Have you heard of the GP2X?

Most gamers are aware of the Nintendo DS, PSP, and GBA but not many people are aware of the GP2X F200. This is an open source device that allows gamers to create their own content using a Linux OS. It has a 3.5" screen, 64mb storage, SD card slot for additional storage, USB 2.0 connection, and the most important aspect, free emulators for the SNES, NES, GB, GBC and GBA, Sega Mega Drive, Master System, Spectrum, C64, Atari, PC Engine, MAME, MSX, Neo Geo Pocket, Game Gear and more. What! This device is like a retro gamers dream. It also has video output, homebrew games, video playback support for almost all video formats, music playback support and too many features to list. I have found a few links that should be of interest.

Nintendo 64 games remade with HQ textures!

This is an incredible thing to someone who spent a lot of time playing N64 games growing up. Heres the deal, through the use of a N64 Emulator called Project64 you can replace existing games textures with high quality textures. This is far from being a new development but hasn't been very mainstream until recently. Here are some photos from one of my favorite N64 games Banjo-Kazooie. Check this game out and more at www.racketboy.com

Handheld device plays retro games and charges in the sun.

I came across this neat little device surfing the net and it seems pretty cool. It has 2GB of internal space and can play several music formats (.mp3, .wma, etc.), movie formats (.avi, .mp4, etc.) and most importantly retro games. It claims to be able to play Gameboy, Gameboy Color and NES games. On top of that it can recharge with solar power. This little device has more features you can check out here.

Create your very own Nintendo game cartridge.

I came across this site that sells Nintendo cartridges that allow you to copy over games of your choosing and play them on a Nintendo Entertainment System. I thought it was to cool an idea to not share. You can find the site here.

Play classic Nintendo games in your web browser.

I came across this site and was very impressed. The site uses a Nintendo emulator programmed in Java to allow you to play classic games in your web browser. What a cool idea. You can find it here.

Hello World!

Hey, my first blog post cool! ehh...hmmm...My goal with this blog is to post news, links, my thoughts, and possibly some reviews of things that interest me and hopefully you in the retro gaming scene. What I consider retro gaming consoles will be pretty much anything that is no longer mainstream. Having this blog is a lot of fun for me because it will give me a reason to discuss topics that (in everyday life) don't always come up. Hope you enjoy the site and feel free to leave comments. Thanks.
